Women and Girl's Cricket

Cricket opportunities for Women and Girls.

Women and girls aged from 9 upwards can join adult ladies for softball cricket and/or hardball cricket.

Our ladies Softball Cricket team play 16 overs in Division 2 of the South Yorks Cricket league, and the Hardball Cricket team play in the One hundred and 40 overs in the Yorkshire Premier League.

We wear coloured clothing and use pink balls. Matches are usually on Sundays, although we sometimes play on a midweek evening as well. Check the Matches and Training Calendars for Details.

The decision to play Hard ball Cricket or Soft ball Cricket is completely yours, there is no pressure to make the switch.

Everyone is welcome to come down and watch us play and train. The Club house has a well stocked bar with beverages and snacks to suit everyone, plus plenty of bench seating and tables.

We play to win, and practice hard, and have a lot of fun doing so, but it’s a relaxed atmosphere, and there is no pressure. We want our women and girls to find love for the game, and join our little community, for exercise, fun and friendship, with everyone leaving our practice sessions smiling and knowing that they have improved.

Our coaches design sessions to make them work for the female player, with lots of fielding, specific batting shots and clear bowling routines, with support from some of the older players.

How to join DTCC for women and girls?

Whatever your age, experience or ambitions there is a place for you in at DTCC, whether playing, officiating or spectating.

Juniors can start with our All Stars and then Dynamos cricket but there are options for those with little or no experience to start their cricket journey depending on age, with both Softball Cricket and Hardball competitive teams.

Women and girls aged from 9 upwards can join Softball Cricket which is a short form variation of cricket designed for women and girls, often used to introduce them to sport in a relaxed and fun environment. It uses a soft cricket ball and non-wooden bats, making it accessible for players of all ages and abilities. The focus is on participation and enjoyment, with rules designed to be inclusive and minimise fuss.

  • Target audience - Women and girls, particularly those new to the sport.

  • Equipment - Soft cricket ball, non-wooden bats (often made of plastic or foam)

  • Format - Teams typically consist of 6-8 players, and each team bats once.

  • Bowling - Each player is encouraged to bowl, but no more than three overs per innings.

  • Batting - Batting pairs face a limited number of overs (usually two or three)

  • Scoring - Runs are scored by running between wickets and hitting the ball to the boundary.

  • Rules - Designed to be fun and inclusive and emphasise fun and participation, with a focus on fair play.

  • Purpose - To encourage more women and girls to participate in cricket and have a positive experience.

  • Softball is often played in festivals and leagues, providing a friendly and accessible way for women to enjoy the sport.

Hardball cricket. If an individual feels ready to try Hardball Cricket, then they should ask the coach who will help decide if they are ready for this or not.

Hardball Cricket uses a hard, leather-covered cricket ball, and requires specialised equipment, including bats, helmets, pads, gloves and other protective gear. Most women at DTCC have their own equipment, however we do have some that you can use when ‘trying out’ if you are considering transitioning from softball to hardball.

Check the Training and Matches Calendars to see what’s on and just call-in, or reach out to Alison March using cricket@dtcc.club for a chat or introduction.
